Modular Wood and Other New Types of Doors

Choosing the Right Paint Colour for Your Interior Doors

Interior doors are usually underrated yet they play an equal role as walls, windows, ceilings and floors when it comes to giving an impression about a house. You may paint your walls, scrub your floor and trim flowers in your home all in an effort to impress your guests but ignore the one thing that will deny you that 10/10 score you are yearning for.

Even if you pay attention to your internal doors, you may still not get the colour that will make your house sparkle on the inside. So, how do you go about choosing the right colour?

Let the Walls Guide You

Painting your walls and interior doors with completely different colours may at times give an impression that you lack taste, even if you have your own solid reasons. Strive to choose a colour that will complement the shades of your walls. But if the doors must pop out on their own, opt for an accent colour.

However, go easy on applying accent colours. If you have different types of doors, accenting everything may bring attention to doors that deserve less of the attention. Just avoid overzealous accenting.

Choose Highly Pigmented Paints

According to Maxwell Gillingham, an expert in interior designs, you should consider classic, European oil-based paints. These paints contain high amounts of pigments that require few coatings and guarantee a smooth finish.

Consider Contrast

For a similar appearance, choose paint colours that posses less contrast. An easy way of determining contrast is by comparing the Light Reflectance Values (LRV) which is normally found at the back of paint fan decks. Choose colours that bear no more than a seven point difference.

Once you know the tips of choosing the right paint colour, apply the paint in the following way on your door(s):

  • Open the door and wash it thoroughly with a mild detergent.  Use a dry paper to dry it and remember to cover the floor with a disposable material such as a newspaper.
  • Start painting the edges before moving on to the panels and mouldings. Because of recesses, use the edge of the brush. For flatter surfaces, use the flat of the brush.
  • Spread the paint evenly by brushing left and right, then upwards and downwards.
  • After you are through with the inlays, complete the rest of the door

Before painting your internal doors, do a test on a small spot to ensure you are totally impressed with the colour.  When you are finished with painting and the work starts to dry, do not re-paint as it will generate an uneven finish.  Contact a company such as Harvest Timber Product to learn more.
